My Top 10 Leading Ladies of 2015

2015 has definitely been the year of leading ladies, from Taylor Swift creating her own girl army to the rise of feminism and the issues that surround it. Female empowerment has been something that I love to enforce on this page, so I thought why not celebrate my leading ladies of this year and add to the female love that has been so enthused over the past year!

10. Candice Swanepoel
For the past 3 years now, Candice has been my all time favourite Angel, not only being extremely beautiful but also sharing her passion for the environment and animals quite openly, especially with her mass following on social media. Although all the angels are incredibly inspirational, proving over the years that there is more to someone than just their looks, or even occupation, I've always been drawn to Candice and her warmth, especially over the past year, which I thought made her worthy of the list.

9. Ashley Benson

Try and find someone this year that wasn't obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. This year has definitely seen the show take over (although it has been running for approximately 5 years), and, by far, Hanna is my favourite of all the liars. Not only is she extremely fashionable and dresses the best out of the 5 main girls, she is also feisty and fierce, which I think are good characteristics to hold, especially when paired with her humbleness and loyalty. Ashley is such a great person, as well; you can tell that she is goal-driven and knows exactly what she wants from her career, which is probably the result of her being in acting since she was only a child. For these reasons, Ashley is definitely a great role model (and lets not forget that Hanna and Caleb, or Ashley and Tyler (lbr), are definitely relationship goals).

8. Emma Roberts
One of my favourite things to come out of 2015 is definitely the birth of 'Scream Queens', which sees a spoilt rich sorority house being hunted down by a murderer in the school mascot costume. Although the programme seems as though it should be a gruesome horror, the content is extremely hilarious, including Chanel, played by the beautiful Emma Roberts. Although I have been a fan of Emma for many years (literally going back to 2007 when she was Nancy Drew), she has definitely been bought back in to the limelight with her acting recently, and you cannot write a list of leading ladies without Chanel Oberlain being a part of it.

7. Gigi Hadid
2015 has definitely been the year for Gigi, landing some of the greatest modelling roles of this year and even becoming an official Victoria's Secret Angel, her dreams have been accomplished over the past 12 months. However, what I love about Gigi is how grounded she is. She never seems to brag about how famous she has become over the past few years or even beauty; she only shows traits of humbleness and gratitude, which I think are admirable. Yolanda, you did well!

6. Miley Cyrus
Miley has always been someone that I have looked up to, and with her impressive amount of charity work this year and her support for the LGBT community has just added to that over the years. She recently released new music and has been actively campaigning with groups, like Happy Hippie, that help improve the lives of others; however this has been extremely overlooked over the past couple of years, especially 2015, as all that the media seems to focus on is her "antics" and what she is wearing, which I think just fuels Miley to show society that the media tries to fit everyone in a tight little box. For this reason, it was only fair that I highlighted what great things Miley contributes to the world today.

5. Kylie Jenner
Not only is Kylie so great at shutting down the press at an impressive age of 18, and being so civilised with how she treats her fame, the main reason that I have listed Kylie is following her 'More Than' campaign. This campaign, ran through her Instagram account that reaches nearly 46 MILLION people, mentions various inspirational people that have been through a lot in their life, whether it be an illness or bullying, etc. She has had quite a bit of backlash from this (which she gets for every single move that she makes, without even phasing her), with people saying that she has others running her accounts and writing these messages, I think that the fact that she engages with these issues is inspirational in itself, and her endless giving to charity and support that she has for hundreds of people is truly remarkable; yet it is overlooked. For someone that is constantly put on a pedestal, I feel as though she is extremely underrated.

4. Ariana Grande
Following on with another Scream Queens leading lady, Ariana has definitely been one of the most talked about celebrities this year. With her extreme dedication to Christmas, bringing out yet another amazing Christmas-themed EP, she also played Chanel #2 (Sonya Herfmann) in the female-empowering slasher comedy, AS WELL as kicking the year off with a super amazing world tour (which I attended and can tell you, first hand, that it was spectacular). However, although I have already made it pretty clear how great Ariana is, there was a moment this year when she started to stand up for herself and fought against a series of sexist comments which were made during a radio show that she was being interviewed on. Her witty comebacks and shut down commentary felt really inspiring, and added to the growing list of women in the spotlight that started to voice their opinion more this year; definitely one of my all-time favourite women.

3. Nicki Minaj
For someone that is highly criticised in the media, Nicki hardly ever seems to be in the limelight for anything positive, being ridiculed for her "crude" lyrics and even what others have done, like the news of flame Meek Mill. However people seem to overlook Nicki's power in the music industry, how influential she is in an extremely male dominated music genre and also how she openly supports feminism and stands by her morals. I recently watched a documentary by Charli XCX (more information later in the post) that included a video of Nicki talking about how dominant and driven women are often labelled as a bitch, whereas men are praised for these certain attributes. Watching her speak so wisely about this subject that never even crossed my mind, I did some more digging and found various videos of Nicki at some of her concerts preaching about the importance of women and how we should stand up for ourselves, which was extremely inspirational; for one of the highest paid female rappers in history, she definitely has the drive and confidence which earns her this spot.

2. Charli XCX
The other day I watched a short documentary called, 'The F-Word and Me', which followed Charli while touring as she investigated what it is like for women in the music industry and what feminism actually is. The whole film was inspiring and extremely eye opening, hearing the thoughts of different women and their outlook on how women are treated in society. How Charli talked about her career and even being female made me look up to her tremendously, and I feel as though I definitely underestimated her in the last couple of years that she's been in the spotlight. If you would like to watch the documentary, I 100% recommend that you do; you can find it on the BBC iPlayer website (film runs out on the 24th December 2015).

1. Selena Gomez
Breaking back in to the music industry this year with a force, Selena has definitely turned heads with her new found image. Selena was probably (alongside Miley) my biggest role model when I was younger, and she definitely is an inspiration to younger children, as well as those older. Although she has re-branded herself, it is clear that Selena hasn't strayed from her original roots as she is still the sweet, caring girl-next-door that everybody loves and enjoys, a trait that is not often seen within the media, however is something that is growing with the younger celebrities, like with Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. Selena has always been someone that I found admirable, from the immense amount of charity that she has been involved with even from a young age and has carried on for years, to how she handles the media, especially when she was in the spotlight while dating Justin Bieber (and, of course, their major break ups). What has made me name Selena as my 'Leading Lady of 2015' is just her overall outlook on life and how much of an authentic all-round person she seems to be, and lets not forget her triple threat of skills, beauty and her strong support for women and it's cause.

Hey guys, I thought this would be a great way to end the year, but I also want to know who your leading ladies are from this year! Please follow my blog and comment and everything, it means a lot!
